Fico d'India, or cactus/prickly pears as they are commonly known, are native to Central America and the deserts of North America, though have become quite popular in Sicily. The prickly pear fruit resembles a small cucumber, which a thick, spiny skin, and tender, seeded magenta flesh. The Prickly Pear is a fruit with a delicate flavor, rich in vitamins and minerals, giving the jam a sweet aroma.
